The number of films coming out of ’Saturday Night Live’ alumni has been steadily increasing and Chris Kattan seems to be the next star of the comedy series to make a real impression on Hollywood. ’Corky Romano’ is his latest comedy in which he gets to show of his many comedic facets. Kattan plays Corky, son of Pop Romano, a mob boss who is about to face jail time for his deeds in the past. The family brings in Corky – after literally kicking him out years earlier – to infiltrate the FBI and steal the evidence that was collected against Pop. With fake IDs and a big, nervous smile Corky suddenly finds himself as an FBI agent, but his bumbling and fumbling does not convince everyone in the department. Will he be able to finish his mission before his cover blows?

’Corky Romano’ is a silly and funny little comedy that is great entertainment if you take it for face value. Don’t expect too much, but for those who enjoy Kattan’s many SNL characters, this film is filled with great gags, nice slapstick and a hint of ’Mango.’

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has released ’Corky Romano’ in a 1.85:1 widescreen presentation that is enhanced for 16×9 TVs. The image is clean and free of blemishes, creating a solid picture. The image is surprisingly grainy at times, though, but other than that it looks fine. Colors are nicely rendered, producing naturally looking fleshtones and vivid hues. The black level is very good, giving the image visual depth with well-defined shadow delineation. The transfer is free of compression artifacts, making for pleasant viewing.

The DVD comes with a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track that is well-produced and makes good use of the surround channels. Although not overly aggressive, surrounds are almost constantly engaged at some level. The dynamic range of the track is very good and with its wide frequency response, the track creates a convincing presentation.

The DVD contains a few deleted scenes and ’All Access’ a short featurette on the movie.

Don’t expect a comedic masterpiece, but nonetheless, ’Corky Romano’ is mindless fun and a truly silly romp that will have you laugh and chuckle a great deal.
