First Macrovision licensed DVD authoring facility in Scotland

Macrovision UK Ltd. , a subsidiary of Macrovision Corporation of Sunnyvale, California (Nasdaq:MVSN) announced that Viscom Aberdeen is now fully licensed to incorporate Macrovision’s proprietary copy protection technology at the authoring stage of the DVD-video manufacturing process.

Mark Philip, Viscom’s Multimedia Manager, said ‘We believe in investing in technology and DVD satisfies the most demanding applications allowing full motion broadcast quality video to be realized in disc for the first time. Piracy is all too common a word in today’s society but with Macrovision’s technology we are one step ahead.’

Macrovision’s DVD copy protection is designed to prevent unauthorized copying of DVD programming to VCRs without impacting the original picture. It is now used on most DVD titles being released and is the only technology of its kind that is currently available to protect against unauthorized copying from DVD players to VCRs. The majority of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) studios copy protect all of their DVDs. Macrovision’s DVD copy protection has been utilized on over 75 percent of all DVD discs manufactured worldwide since 1997 (i.e., over 180 million DVDs to-date).

And DVD slides its pervasive fingers even deeper into the planet…
