Yamaha’s 5.1 PC soundboard has been greenlit by DTS

Digital Theater Systems (DTS) has completed its certification process and notified Yamaha of its approval of Yamaha’s XG-Movie 5.1 Digital Surround Card. The Yamaha XG-Movie 5.1, targeted at PC enthusiasts and game users, includes Yamaha’s YMF744 and YSS912 audio chips, which support DTS(TM) Digital Surround and Dolby Digital. The new audio card provides a variety of surround effects such as church, jazz, hall, disco, live, stadium and theatre using a sub-DSP in the Yamaha YSS912.

The Yamaha XG-Movie 5.1 is a high fidelity, PCI sound card that outputs 6 (5.1) channels of audio (left, right, left-surround, right-surround, center and LFE, sometimes referred to as subwoofer) and delivers cinema quality effects. The card accepts both analog and digital input sources and provides both analog and digital output.

Features of Yamaha XG-Movie 5.1 Sound Card include full Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic and DTS Digital Surround support providing 6 channels of audio, 6 analog inputs, Full duplex hardware for telephony functions, SPDIF I/O with coaxial/optical connectors, PCI Bus Master Interface (PCI 2.2 compliant), 4-channel AC97 output suppport, and MPU-401 UART-compatible MIDI interface on a second bracket, among others.

The XG-Movie 5.1 sound card is starting to ship now at an expected retail prices of $199.
