Amblin pulls the plug

Here’s the story as reported by the Hollywood Reporter 10/6/97.

Amblin balks on DVD; “Jurassic” lost to format
While most studios have been falling in the DVD line lately, Amblin Entertainment has taken a step back just as Universal Studios Home Video was about to introduce the first five Amblin titles on DVD. The company has put its DVD release plans on indefinite hold, leaving a big hole in the planned launch slate of Universal, which handles home video marketing and distribution for Amblin and DreamWorks SKG. As a result, Universal’s initial release slate of eight titles in the United States and Canada this year will not include five titles initially announced to be among the first from the studio: “Jurassic Park”, “Back to the Future”, “The Flintstones”, “Casper” and “The Land Before Time.” (Scott Hettrick)
