"Legends Of Porn" is an anthology of porn stars coming on two discs from Nutech Digital. As you would expect from the title, these discs cover the different eras the porn industry went through, mostly separated by the pre-video and post-video era. The discs give you a very good overview about how X-Rated movies have changed over the years in general and who the hottest stars were during those different periods. It also includes some very rare footage, never before seen on video.

Spread over the two discs, which are sold separately, "Legends Of Porn" introduces you to far over 50 different porn stars in some of their most memorable and best known film scenes. Obviously the quality of those scenes varies heavily from bad to good, as some of the source material is old and has never been of high a quality as feature movie productions to begin with. Some of the newer footage however is of excellent quality and well reproduced on Nutech’s release. Unfortunately the focus of the disc is clearly on 80’s material and I have been hardly able to spot any really new footage, no doubt do to licensing problems. For obvious reasons the film does not try to create a story or continuity, but understands itself more as a highly entertaining and stimulating documentary about the genre. As such it introduces each participant in the scenes with a shot commentary. In rapid fire sequence you will go through numerous scenes of adult entertainment, meeting porn stars of yesterday and today.

While the disc is certainly not for everyone’s taste, because it does not create the erotic atmosphere of many other adult films, it is a good mix of old and new adult entertainment. It is not as flashy as Vivid’s titles, but through its documentary character it instead creates a rather good and complete overview over the porn industry through to the late 1980s.

The disc’s quality is okay, although not exceedingly good. Compression artifacts are visible almost throughout, but luckily it never gets to the point that it is becoming truly distracting. The sound is muffled for the most part and undistinguished, but changes in quality due to age, just as the overall image quality does.

On its two discs, "Legends Of Porn" presents stars like Marylin Chamber, Jessie St. James, Candy Samples, Seka, John Holmes, Ginger Lynn, Joey Silvera, Joanna Storm, Nina Hartley, Barbara Dare, Hypatia Lee, Angel, Amber Lynn, Paul Thomas and many, many more. Both discs contains full length <$commentary,commentary track>s by Jim Holliday, a porn historian and director, who talks about the scenes and reviews each one of them.
