Cast: Tom Berenger, Dennis Hopper, Erika Eleniak
Extras: Behind-the-Scenes Featurette, Cast Info, Theatrical Trailers
Rating:

Despite the fact that ’Chasers’ features some well-known faces like Dennis Hopper, who also directed the film, Tom Berenger, Dean Stockwell and Gary Busey, as well as former Playmate Erika Eleniak, the movie itself doesn’t really have as much to offer as it suggests. The story of a Navy officer who is assigned to ’chaser’ duty, transferring a female prisoner to jail, while she is constantly trying to escape, is just not nearly as exciting as one would expect. Although the film has some great funny moments and the cast does a good job at the portrayal of the Navy environment, somehow the film never really gets off the ground.

Warner Home Video is presenting ’Chasers’ in a 16×9 enhanced widescreen transfer in the movie’s original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The image is generally good and without noticeable flaws. There are a few specks in the print and some grain is evident, but overall, the transfer features good level of detail and natural looking colors. Blacks are deep and solid and shadows are well delineated without losing details.

’Chasrers’ contains 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio tracks in English and French. Both are well integrated and make good use of the surround channels. The frequency response is wide and natural, creating a faithfully sounding sonic bed for the movie with dialogues that are always understandable. The track’s dynamic range is also very good with good bass and a clear high end that is free of distortion. In many instances the nicely layered music and sound effects are reproduced very transparently and with good spatial integration.

’Chasers’ is not a fantastic movie but it’s not really a bad one either. It is a humorous experience that, with the right mindset, can make for some enjoyable 100 minutes. If you are into light-hearted popcorn entertainment, check it out some time.
