Once Upon A Time In The West heads to Blu-Ray

Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western masterpiece Once Upon A Time In The West is finally heading to high definition, and I for one, can hardly wait to see it. Scheduled for release in May, Paramount Home Entertainment releases the film with a number of extras on top.

Henry Fonda plays the blackest character of his long career, and he’s utterly convincing as Frank, the ruthless and murderous psychopath who suffers no conscience pangs after annihilating an entire family at the bidding of a powerful railroad tycoon. Jason Robards is the half-breed falsely accused of the terrible slaughter who embarks on a journey with the young widow left behind to seek the real killer.  Charles Bronson plays a mysterious man with a harmonica and a brutal past who joins forces with them on their quest.  Populated by rich and fascinating characters and driven by an intricately woven plot, “Once Upon A Time In The West” is a classic that deserves to be savored and appreciated in high definition.

Featuring a 1080p high definition version of the film, the Bly-Ray Disc features not only the movie’s American theatrical cut, but also a he fully restored version of the film. It will arrive with a DTS 5.1 HD Master Audio track along with a Commentary Track with contributions by directors John Carpenter, John Milius and Alex Cox, film historians Sir Christopher Frayling and Dr. Sheldon Hall, along with cast and crew members.

A series of Featurettes will also be included, covering the production, impact and history of the film, such as ”An Opera of Violence,” “The Wages of Sin,” “Something to do with Death,” “Railroad: Revolutionizing the West” and ”Locations Then & Now”. Also included is a Production Gallery and the movie’s Theatrical Trailer.

The story may be grim, but this Blu-Ray version of “Once Upon A Time In The West” will arrive in stores on May 31 for an exceedingly friendly $19.99.
