District 9 arrives on Earth
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has added District 9 to its release schedule, bringing the film to DVD and Blu-Ray Disc in December also.
From producer Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and director Neill Blomkamp comes a startlingly original science fiction thriller that “soars on the imagination of its creators” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone). With stunning special effects and gritty realism, the film plunges us into a world where the aliens have landed… only to be exiled to a slum on the fringes of Johannesburg. Now, one lone human discovers the mysterious secret of the extraterrestrial weapon technology. Hunted and hounded through the bizarre back alleys of an alien shantytown, he will discover what it means to be the ultimate outsider on your own planet.
A single-disc DVD will be released featuring the film in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. As extras the disc will contain a Director’s Commentary and Deleted Scenes, as well as the Three-Part Documentary ”The Alien Agenda: A Filmmaker’s Log”.
The 2-disc DVD will feature an anamorphic widescreen presentation of the movie with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio also, and contain the features mentioned above. In addition, the release will contain the Featurettes ”Metamorphosis: The Transformation of Wikus,” “Innovation: Acting and Improvisation,” “Conception and Design: Creating the World of District 9” and ”Alien Generation: Visual Effects”.
The Blu-Ray version of the movie will dish out a 1080p high definition transfer with high definition audio. Loaded with extras, this release will include the BD Live features movieIQ and cinechat, as well as an Interactive Map called ”Joburg From Above: Satellite and Schematics of the World of District 9”. All the extras from the DVD versions will also be included, of course.
“District 9” touches down on December 29 for $28.96 on single-disc DVD, $36.95 on 2-disc DVD and $39.95 on Blu-Ray.
