Strangelove is back

Kubrick fans rejoice; one more film is making its way to Blu-ray. Although recently pulled from release schedules, Sony has put Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb back in line.

The 45th Anniversary Edition will arrive in June with a picture in picture Cold Facts Graphics track, interviews with Robert McNamara, the featurettes Best Sellers: Peter Selles Remembered, Inside the Making of Dr. Strangelove, Inside: Dr. Strangelove No Fighting in the War Room or: Dr. Strangelove and the Nuclear Threat and The Art of Stanley Kubrick: From Short Films to Strangelove. All this is wonderful news, what is perhaps more controversial news is the choice to put the film on disc in a fixed 1.66:1 aspect ratio. (Of course any choice made with the aspect on this film would be controversial). The video is in 1080p AVC and the audio in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD.

The disc arrives on June 16th adding to the Kubrick library. Now – as Greg Jarvis might ask – “Where’s Barry Lyndon”?
