No ticker tape parades, no sailors kissing their sweethearts, but the high def war is over. Toshiba announced from Tokyo this morning that it will no longer develop, manufacture or markey HD-DVD. Shipments of players will reduce until they cease at the end of March. PC and game players will also be phased out. Toshiba has yet to announce their plans for integrated HD-DVD drives within existing laptops.Existing owners will still receive produce support and service for the time being.
So where does this leave things? Paramount and Universal will likely make some annoucment as to their future plans soon. The Xbox 360 will have to figure out it’s plans. But HD-DVD will be gone by the end of March.
