Star Trek: The Complete Second Season is one of the first HD-DVD titles to be pulled from the schedule due to a large financial backing from Toshiba for the set. It seems unlikely the last two seasons of the show or further Treks will show up on the format without Toshiba backing. Hopefully, Paramount will eventually decide to put out the original series, as well as Trek movies and Star Trek Enterprise on Blu-ray in the future. But that will depend on exactly how Paramount wants to continue in the high def world. (the “80s and ”90s Trek series, while created on film, were mastered for special effects in video, so high def masters do not exist without redoing special effects).
One bit of good news. The syndicated remasters of Star Trek will continue to be put out by CBS Digital unaffected.
