Of all the television shows to come to DVD, Father Knows Best has never made the leap to video, but Shout! Factory is finally bringing the show to DVD with some really interesting extras.

An idealized portrait of American life in the 1950s, “Father Knows Best” starred Robert Young as Jim Anderson, reprising the role from an earlier radio series. Jane Wyatt played his wife, with Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray and Lauren Chapin as their children.

The DVD will include Robert Young’s home movies, behind the scenes color footage, news interviews and two very rare treats; the pilot episode of the follow-up series Window on Main Street and the episode 24 Hours in Tyrantland produced by the U.S. government to be shown in schools teaching the evils of dictatorship and the values of war bonds.

The set will arrive on April 1st – no joke. The first season will arrive for $34.99.
