Following the release of the very complete Roots box set, Warner Home Entertainment has announced the upcoming release of Alex Haley’s Queen coming to DVD to add another level to the story.

There are two sides to every story; for Alex Haley, one side was the Roots saga, tracing seven generations of his mother’s side of the family beginning with Kunta Kinte. The other side of Haley’s family is depicted in Alex Haley’s Queen, the remarkable story of his paternal grandmother played by Academy Award® winner and box-office star Halle Berry. Daughter of a black slave and a white plantation owner, Queen searches for a home in the two cultures of her heritage both before and after the turbulent years of the Civil War. Although she is, at times, shunned by both cultures, rejection and hate are no match for her unconquerable will.

The 1993 mino-series comes complete on this DVD, but with no supplements to speak of. Look for it to arrive on January 15th for $24.98.
