Paramount brings the nosy fellow back to DVD in Collector’s Editions

Paramount Home Entertainment has just unveiled plans brings back Chinatown and The Two Jakes to DVD this November as “Collector’s Editions” with new bonus materials.

Jack Nicholson is private eye Jake Gittes, living off the murky moral climate of sunbaked, pre-war Southern California. Hired by a beautiful socialite to investigate her husband’s extra-marital affair, Gittes is swept into a maelstrom of double dealings and deadly deceits, uncovering a web of personal and political scandals that come crashing together for one, unforgettable night in… Chinatown.

The DVD will feature a new 16×9 transfer of the movie with 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track as well as a restored version of the original mono audio track. As extras the release will offer up a series of Featurettes such as “Chinatown: The Beginning and The End!,” “Chinatown Style,” “Acting Chinatown,” and “Chinatown: The Classic.” Also included is the movie’s Theatrical Trailer.

In “The Two Jakes,” Jack Nicholson returns as private eye Jake Gittes in this atmospheric “Chinatown” follow-up that for many is even better than the first movie.

Much has changed since we last saw Jake. The war has come and gone; 1948 Los Angeles teems with optimism and fast bucks. But there’s one thing Jake knows hasn’t changed: “Nine times out of ten, if you follow the money you will get to the truth.” And that’s the trail he follows when a routine case of marital hanky panky explodes into a murder that’s tied to a grab for oil – and to Jake’s own past.

Also coming in 16×9 widescreen with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio the DVD will also contain the Jack on Jakes Featurette as well as the movie’s Theatrical Trailer.

Both releases will be available on November 7 and can be yours for a friendly $14.98.
