Even after the summer, Surf’s Up on home video

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just announced plans to release the animated adventure Surf’s Up this October. The charming film featuring the voices of Shia LaBeou, Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel, James Woods and Jon Heder will be making its debut on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc as well as UMD for the PSP.

Surf’s Up goes behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive penguin surfing. Inspired by his hero, the legendary wave rider Big Z, Cody Maverick leaves his family and his town of Shiverpool, Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off – Cody’s first pro competition. Cody believes that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he deserves. But when he unexpectedly comes face to face with Geek, a washed up old surfer, Cody begins to understand that the greatest champion isn’t always the one who comes in first.

Filled with bonus features, the release will offer up a Filmmaker Commentary as well as the all-new animated short “The ChubbChubbs Save XMAS”. The original animated short “The ChubbChubbs” is also included together with 3 Interactive Games. With the “Create Your Own Surfboard” game, players can create a custom surfboard by selecting their own board shape, color and style, and then see if Cody can ride the killer wave on the custom surfboard. The “Lava Surf” game challenges players to twist and turn their way thru the lava tubes while avoiding hot lava and other obstacles throughout the course, and the “Whale Hopping” game lets players navigate Chicken Joe across the ocean by jumping whale to whale.

“Surf’s Up” also includes a three-part documentary about the technical achievements in making the film titled “Not a Drop of Water,” a music video of “Lose Myself” by Ms. Lauryn Hill, and much more!

The beach is open and “Surf’s Up” on October 9 for $28.95/ The blu-Ray version will cost $38.98 while the UMD version will set you back $28.98. Not exactly cheap, but still well worth it.
