Disney gets serious about television; cutesy with names

Buena Vista is preparing a new assault in television DVD releases, hoping to increase the value of television sets and pull consumers away from dowloadable episodes by including more bonus material. Part of this trend, alas, is to add the cutesy “special edition” labels to television sets.

Ugly Betty: The Complete First Season — Bettyfied Edition includes a fashion show, a Spanish audio track, a discussion with the cast on the show’s origins, and a behind-the-scenes documentary. The set hits shelves on August 21st.

Desperate Housewives: The Complete Third Season — The Dirty Laundry Edition includes a behind-the-scenes look at the season finale, a Spanish audio track, a conversation with series star Eva Longoria, a collection of creator Marc Cherry’s favorite scenes, and several unaired storylines, deleted scenes and outtakes.
The set arrives on September 4th.

Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Third Season — Seriously Extended Edition Contains the complete season with four episodes extended for the DVD release. Other bonus features include an interview with Ellen Pompeo, a visit to the racetrack with Patrick Dempsey, cast and crew members’ favorite scenes, and audio commentaries. It arrives September 11th.

Brothers & Sisters Complete First Season (no clever name attached) includes a bonus episode, a “family tree” featurette detailing the complex relationships among the ensemble cast, a set tour, bloopers, deleted scenes and commentary.

Lost: The Complete Third Season — The Unexplored Season comes on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The set comes with an interview with Matthew Fox, a featurette on “The Others,” a documentary chronicling 24 hours in production and a selection of never-before-seen flashbacks. Also included are behind-the-scenes looks at 10 episodes, audio commentaries, deleted scenes and bloopers. The set arrives December 11th.

All these sets will be coming with various suggested retail prices in time for their upcoming seasons.
