New format is a triple-threat

Still skeptical over the format wars for high definition. Three engineers have thrown their idea into the ring. The engineers employed by Warner have patented an application for a disc which carries Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and DVD data on the same disc. The disc would contain DVD data on one side, Blu-Ray data on the other side and HD-DVD data 0.5mm below it. The advantages are less format confusion, the disadvantages are a reduced amount of data available for each format and studios needing to create three masters for each film released. But it’s certainly an interesting development.
