As I pointed out earlier, my firm belief is that the competing high definition formats, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, will coexist as combo players that are able to playany format will penetrate the market at a rapid pace. Rico just unveiled that they have developed a technology that allows manufacturers of electronics devices to read both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs by using a diffraction plate that will adjust the focal length and other properties of the laser to accommodate either format. The technology will be available in volume in early 2007.
