By many standards, Criterion has been the leader inDVD presentation, but in the early days of DVD, the company was slow to adopt anamorphic transfers as a standard feature. But The Digital Bits has gotten word that three great Criterion titles will be coming back with new anamorphic transfers – and a little something more in one case. Amarcord and Brazil are both going over to anamorphic releases, and Seven Samurai is not only getting a video upgrade, but is going to a three disc release. That’s great news for Kirosawa fans.
All three titles are coming in the months to come. For collector’s, the releases will be among the early titles to have Criterion’s slightly modified new look.
