Nine years. It’s been nine years since I picked up my first Toshiba SD-2006, Cutthroat Island and Total Recall (which at the time were among the four or five DVD titles on the market). Today the first round of HD-DVD titles are being put on shelves for purchase. Toshiba has already reported strong sales for their player. We’ll see how the titles do in the week to come. Format wars may come, but unlike the Laserdisc community of a decade ago, I think DVD owners are looking forward to this exciting new chapter.
