The Texas Chainsaw Massacre receives the definitive treatment

Dark Sky Films is a studio most of you have probably never heard of but they are a specialist for various small cult and older independent films, and is also known for the respectable quality of their DVD releases. Now we have received word that the studio is working on a DVD special edition of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

This is the bizarre and tragically gruesome account of what happened to five young friends one summer afternoon in rural Texas. After hearing reports of grave robbing, the group sets out to check on a family grave. Soon after, one-by-one they wander into the murderous clutches of Leatherface.

This new DVD will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer taken directly from the 16mm elements and will be complemented by a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track, as well as a stereo track and the original, restored mono track of the film.

As extras you will see a Commentary Track on this release, featuring cast members Marilyn Burns, Alan Danziger, Paul A. Partain, and Production Designer Robert A. Burns. On a Second Commentary Track you will be able to listen to Tobe Hooper himself, as well as Director of Photography Daniel Pearl, and Leatherface. A selection of Deleted and Alternate Scenes will be included as well as a Promotional Galleries with various publicity and production stills.

On a second disc you will find the acclaimed Documentary “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth,” available in the US for the first time! An all new Retrospective Documentary by Red Shirt Pictures will also be included on this disc.

This release of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is scheduled for release in September, just in time for Halloween, but it’s never to early to earmark your calendars.
