Want HD? Better have an HDMI cable

Bad news for early adopters on the high definition front. Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs are going to have an unexpected limitation for those hoping to catch their full HD glory; the disc standard for both will prevent 1080 resolution video from passing through analog cables – namely Component cables. Instead, signals through component inputs will be downgraded to 540 lines (slightly better than the 480 of DVD).

Apparently to ge the full throughput is going to require an HDMI connection ,which is not fully supported by all receivers or HDTVs.
