Network goes on the air once again next month

Also part of Warner Home Video’s celebration of the works of Sidney Lumet, the studio will release the director’s 1976 film Network on February 28 also.

Before reality TV, there was “Network!” Lumet directs this prophetic satire from Paddy Chayefsky about the things people do for love… and ratings. Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch, Robert Duvall and Beatrice Straight star. Finch won a Best Actor Oscar as Anchor man Howard Beale, whose airwave rants about the state of hard news reporting (“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”) become a phenomenon. Faye Dunaway won Best Actress as the TV exec guarding ratings like a tigress protecting her cubs and Beatrice Straight won a Best Supporting Actress for her performance.

The 2-disc Special Edition will contain a Commentary Track by director Sidney Lumet as well as a new Six-part Documentary. that covers “The World and Words of Paddy Chayefsky,” “The Cast and the Characters,” “Mad As Hell! The Creation of a Movie Moment,” “The Experience,” “The Style,” and “By Walter Conkite” in separate featurettes. You will also find a Vintage Interview on the release featuring Paddy Chavefsky on “Dinah!”

The release will also contain Private Screenings from the Turner Classic Movies broadcast, featuring Sidney Lumet, and the film’s Theatrical Trailer.

“Network” will be in stores on February 28 and carry a suggested retail price of $26.98.
