Warner Home Entertainment has joined Paramount in announcing support for both HD-DVD and now Blu-Ray as well. Warner has been one of the powerhouse supporters of HD-DVD and one of the major obstacles for Blu-Ray. With Warner, virtually all studios are planning Blu-Ray releases, while a smaller percentage are still supporting HD-DVD. Computer giants Intel and Microsoft are still solely behind the HD format, however.
Sony’s Blu-Ray format is slated to be first to hit the commercial market in mid-2006 followed by the PlayStation3 which will also support Blu-Ray. HD-DVD players will arrive later in the year.
