He is what he is… Popeye goes to disc

Max Fleisher’s celebrated Popeye the Sailor Man has been in the public domain long enough to see a slew of cheaply produced bargain bin DVDs. Fans of the series will finally get a decent treatment for the spinach loving brute thanks to Mackinac Media.
Cartoonist and inventor Max Fleisher launched the Popeye series in 1933 and the crusty old sailorman has been riding the high seas ever since. Popeye: Original Classics features some of the spinach eater’s earliest adventures, with three color “specials” that have an eye popping 3-D style. The special features include rare interviews with voice talents Jack Mercer (Popeye), Mae Questel (Olive Oil) and many of the original animators. Fans also get a unique tour around Popeye’s home town of Chester, Illinois and a fun peek into a treasure chest of memorabilia.

The disc arrives on December 13th.
