A new edition of Gallipoli is on its way this winter

Paramount Home Entertainment is currently working on a Special Collector’s Edition of Australian director Peter Weir’s 1981 movie, Gallipoli.

Honoring the 90th Anniversary of “Gallipoli,” this landmark war movie brings to life the story of friends and the war that tore them apart. Starring Mel Gibson see the story of how the irresistible lure of adventure and the unknown, combined with national pride, brings to you men together in the Australian army in 1915. They cross continents and great oceans, climb pyramids and walk through the ancient sands of Egypt to join their regiment at the fateful battle of Gallipoli. The echoes of history blend with the friends’ compelling destiny as they become part of a legendary World War I confrontation between Australians and the German allied Turks – a battle that is to Australians what the Alamo is to American.

Featuring an anamorphic widescreen transfer and 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio tack, this new DVD will also contain a six-part Documentary called “The Making of Gallipoli.” It is rounded out by the film’s Theatrical Trailer.

The term Special Collector’s Edition may be a bit overinflated considering the dearth of bonus material on the release – not even a commentary track is included – but since the release will carry a super-cheap $15.99 suggested retail price, one can hardly complain. “Gallipoli” will be in stores on December 13.
