Viacom plans to open the floodgates

Viacom, the mega-conglomerate that controls close to 3, 000 movies and television programs has announced over the weekend that the company would move the massive bulk of its underutilized properties off the company’s shelves and onto DVD. According to chief Sumner Redstone, “Content is king, and we are the
kings of content.” Currently less than five percent of Viacom’s vast library is on DVD.

Let us hope that Redstone’s commitment to quantity is matched by a dedication to quality.
