High def DVD news

More news is here in the upcoming battle for the next high-definition DVD format. First off, Dolby Digital has just been named as mandatory formats for both
High-Definition Digital Versatile Disc (HD-DVD) and Blu-ray Disc. The DVD Forum has selected Dolby Digital Plus and MLP LosslessTM as mandatory audio formats for HD-DVD. The Blu-ray Disc Association announced that Dolby Digital will be a mandatory technology on its new format, the Blu-ray Disc. Dolby Digital Plus is the newest encoding from Dolby which promises higher bit-rates and more discrete channels. An additional spec is that the HD-DVD players must carry support for the DVD Audio format.

In other news, Sony has announced that Blu-ray will be included in the upcoming Playstation 3 coming in the near future.
