Stephen King Presents Kingdom Hospital is coming to DVD this fall

Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will bring Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital to DVD this fall as we have just learned. Inspired by famed director Lars Von Trier’s acclaimed Danish miniseries “Rigit, ” King has created this TV mini series and merged his own experiences following a near-death auto accident to create a bizarre environment centered around a hospital built on the site of a deadly Civil War-era mill fire.

Written and executive-produced by Stephen King, “Stephen King Presents Kingdom Hospital” stars Andrew McCarthy as Dr. Hook, a brilliant surgeon who lives in the hospital basement, three-time Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Diane Ladd as Mrs. Druse, a hypochondriac with unusual psychic abilities, Oscar® nominee Bruce Davison as the arrogant and somewhat inept Dr. Stegman, and Ed Begley, Jr. as Dr. Jesse James.

When the series’ strange staff – which also includes a nearly blind security guard and a nurse who regularly faints at the sight of blood – begin to hear the tortured voice of a little girl crying in the halls and a paraplegic miraculously recovers, the doctors are dismissive of any suggestion of mysticism or unseen powers. However, they are forced to question their beliefs as the hospital’s atmosphere changes from eccentric to menacing and the characters find their lives truly at risk.

Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release “Stephen King Presents Kingdom Hospital” on October 12 as a four-disc DVD set which includes 13 episodes running a total of 15 hours. It will also include filmmakers’ commentary, four new featurettes and new interviews with Stephen King. The DVD set will carry a suggested retail price of $49.95.
