Mary Poppins returns

A stubborn friend back in 1997 commented that DVD would never replace Laserdisc, because DVD would never put out special editions like his Mary Poppins LD. Well I hope now he’s convinced as Buena Vista is bringing back the great family classic as a special two-disc set loaded with extras this fall.

Presented in anamorphic widescreen, the film carries both the original sound mix and a newly mixed Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. A new audio commentary with the cast including Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, Richard Sherman and Karen Dotrice has been added along with a text commentary. Extras include the animated short “The Cat That Looked at the King”, the deleted song “Chimpazoo”, the featurettes “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: The Making of Mary Poppins,” “Movie Magic,” “Magical Mystery Reunion” and “Musical Journey”, scene deconstructions, make-up tests, premiere footage, still galleries and theatrical trailers.

Arriving on December 14th, the DVD will carry a suggested retail price of $29.95.
