The Manchurian Candidate gets a special edition

Long before Microsoft hypnotized us with solitaire, John Frankenheimer did so in the politically chilling The Manchurian Candidate. At long last, MGM Home Entertainment will replace the current slightly sub par DVD with a special edition this year.

Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh and Angela Lansbury star in this political suspense classic about the drug-hypnosis-induced behavior that transforms a U.S. Army hero into a human time bomb.

Presented in anamorphic widescreen the film will have audio in its original mono as well as an upmixed Dolby Digital 5.1 track. An audio commentary with John Frankenheimer is on the disc along with an interview with Frank Sinatra, a featurette on George Axelrod and Frankenheimer, a second featurette entitled Queen of Diamonds, an interview with author William Friedkin, a photo gallery, theatrical trailers and easter eggs.

With a suggested retail price of $14.95, the disc will street on July 13th. Now why don’t you play a nice game of solitaire.
