Disney rushes out Platinum

Perhaps rushing is not the appropriate term, but Buena Vista Home Entertainment has hastened the schedule for Disney Platinum Collection releases. After the release of The Lion King on October 7th, the platinum releases will begin arriving at a rate of two per year, completing the ten title set by 2007 versus the original 2010.

The exact order of releases has not been announced, but the originally announced Platinum titles still to be released include Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book. Additional news is that three more titles have been added to the Platinum line, which already exists on disc as part of the Gold or Special Edition lines. The additional titles are Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Fantasia (perhaps unedited) and Peter Pan.

The release/moratorium schedule for these films has also been altered leaving each title on the shelves for a year and removing them for five years.
