Dances With Wolves: Special Edition

On MGM Home Entertainment’s Special Edition release of “Dances With Wolves, ” the studio has once again hidden a number of cool features without telling anyone.

Insert the second side of the first disc in your DVD player – the one labeled “Special Features” on the inner ring. On that disc’s Main Menu press the “Up” arrow key on your remote control to highlight an Indian on a horse. Press “Enter” and you will see 2-minutes of footage featuring extras.

Now press the “Right” arrow key and a feather is highlighted. Select it and you will get to see almost 5-minutes worth of behind-the-scenes footage of Kevin Costner prepping and shooting a special effects scene from the movie.

Press “Right” once again and the silhouette of a buffalo will appear. Press “Enter” and you will be able to view some footage of Kevin Costner inspecting the set up of an animatronic buffalo for one scene.

Press the “Right” arrow key on your remote control one more time and a teepee will appear. Press “Enter” to see the shooting of a scene in which Kevin Costner is killing Sergeant Bauer with a Tomahawk.

Another hidden features can be accessed
on the second disc of the set. Insert it into your player and on the Main Menu press the “Up” arrow key on your remote control. This will highlight the silhouette of a wolf next to the words “Special Features.” Now, press the “Enter” key and you will get to see a 5-minute presentation reel by editor Neil Travis called “Second Wind,” which consists entirely of dailies from the film.
