Casablanca gets a birthday present

To celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of one of the top films of all time, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment is getting ready to release a special edition of Casablanca later this year with a plethora of extras not available on previous releases.

Considered by many to be the greatest Hollywood movie ever made, this WW2 classic takes place in war-torn Casablanca and tells the tale of mysterious nightclub owner Bogart and his old Flame, her husband, underground leader, and other skeletons from his past.

Preserved in its original academy ratio the film will feature the original mono soundtrack. The biggest feature of the disc will be several recently discovered deleted scenes and outtakes. Two audio commentaries will be included, the first from Roger Ebert and the second from film historian Rudy Behlmer. The featurette “The Children Remember” and the documentaries “You Must Remember This: The Making of Casablanca” and “Bacall on Bogart” fill out the disc along with the original “Screen Guild Players Radio Production”, scoring session outtakes and trailers.

What a treat. All this will be available on DVD on August 5th of this year. The disc will have a suggested retail price of $26.95.
