T2 breaks new ground again.

The first widely distributed dual layer DVD was Terminator 2, the first widespread DVD-18 was Terminator 2, and now the first real foray into high definition DVD comes not surprisingly in the form of Terminator 2 – The Extreme Edition from Artisan Home Entertainment.

The two disc set contains two versions of the film, the first disc contains the Pioneer special edition of the film in anamorphic widescreen with audio in Dolby Digital EX 5.1 and a Dolby headphone audio track. The disc will also contain an audio commentary with James Cameron and William Wisher. An extreme interactive modem is also available with graphic commentary and rare behind-the-scenes footage.

Disc two is where things get interesting. Several traditional features are included with the documentary “No Feat But What We Make” the “T2: On the Set” featurette, and some DVD-ROM games. But more than the traditional ROM content, the theatrical version of the film is presented in its entirety in 1080p high definition viewable only in Windows XP with Windows Media Player 9.
The DVD will come on June 3rd of this year and will carry a suggested retail price of $29.95. High definition, after a fashion, is just around the corner.
