Futurama: Volume 1

On 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s release of the first season of “Futurama” the studio has hidden a wealth of hilarious extras on the discs of this box set, so make sure to check them all out.

To begin, insert the first disc from the set and when the Main Menu comes up, highlight the “Love’s Labours Lost in Space” menu entry and then press the “Right” arrow key on your remote control to highlight the flying car. This will give you access to a Futurama-spoof on a well-known movie poster.

Now insert the second disc of the set and on the Main Menu, highlight the menu entry for the episode “Hell Is Other Robots” and then press the “Down” arrow key on your remote control. This will highlight the Slurm truck, which gives you access to another Futurama-style spoof on a familiar movie poster.

Still on the second disc, go to the episode “Fear Of A Bot Planet” and there select the “Scene Selection.” On that menu, highlight Scene 4 and then press the “Left” arrow key on your remote control to highlight the “NNY” logo which will allow you to view another movie poster parody.

Now, go to the episode “My Three Suns” and enter the “Scene Selection.” Once you get there, highlight the “Main Menu” entry and then press the “Left” arrow key once again to highlight the three buttons on the console, which will give you access to still another Futurama-style movie poster interpretation.

Now go to the episode “Hell Is Other Robots,” go to the “Scene Selection” and highlight Scene 3. Now press the “Right” arrow key on your remote and you will highlight the symbol of the robot church. Press “Enter” to see another movie poster parody.

Now it is time to insert the third disc of the box set. On that DVD’s Main Menu, highlight the menu entry for the episode “Fry and the Slurm Factory” and then press the “Down” arrow key on your remote control to highlight the police car on the screen. If you press “Enter” now you will get to see another Futurama-style spoof on a famous movie poster.

It is now time to go to the episode “A Flight To Remember” and enter the “Scene Selection” where you highlight Scene 4. Press the “Left” arrow key on your remote control to highlight the “Do Not Push” button and if you press “Enter” now, you will get to see a shocking image of the Professor!
Still on the third disc, go to the “Special Features” menu of any of the episodes and use the “right” arrow key on your remote control to highlight the remote control in the alien’s hand on the right side of the screen. Press “Enter” now and you will see another movie poster interpretation Futurama-style.

While you are in the “Special Features” menu, go to the “Image Gallery” and you will see the Planet Express logo appear in the upper right corner of the screen. There are four images and you can select each of them using your remote control to see brief clips in which Futurama-creator Matt Groening will discuss his characters.
