Windtalkers gets the full blown treatment

The John Woo entry into war films Windtalkers already has a passable DVD, but MGM Home Entertainment has decided to give the movie a three disc ultra special edition this spring.

First off on the first disc is the film with twenty minutes of additional footage presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1. The extras are plentiful and include an introduction by director John Woo, audio commentaries; one with John Woo and procucer Terence Chang, one with actors Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater and one with actor Roger Willie and consultant Albert Smith. The second disc gets into the supplemental features with the documentaries “The Code Talkers – The Secret Code of Honor” and “American Heroes: A Tribute to Code Talkers” and the featurette “The Music of Windtalkers”. The final disc continues in the same vein with multi-angle breakdowns of battle scenes, boot camp set diaries, the featurette“Actor’s Boot Camp”, a photo gallery, filmography for Woo and theatrical trailers.

Without a doubt this is one of the most extensive releases ever put out by MGM. One has to wonder how Windtalkers got the treatment while Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure sits alone. In any case, the set will be priced at $39.95 when it arrives on May 20th.
