Star Trek V Redux?

After the tremendous interest in the newly created Director’s Editions of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” and “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”, William Shatner has confirmed that he is pursuing a chance to revisit Star Trek V: The Final Frontier when the film comes up for the special edition treatment from Paramount Home Entertainment.

The much maligned directorial debut from Shatner suffered many budget cutbacks in 1989 including the lack of a decent special effects budget which Shatner hopes to improve with a new tighter edit of the film.

John Hertzler is currently hard at work finishing touches on the upcoming Special Edition of “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” which will feature commentary from Shatner himself along with director/costar Leonard Nimoy. After that, Paramount will have to decide what direction to go with Trek V. Trek fans will know that in addition to I, II, and V. Several other Trek film have had additional footage or alternate takes including VI, VII and IX. Perhaps all of these will be included on eventual DVD releases. But Paramount, if you’re listening, would you please consider seamless branching on these? Thanks.
