DVD copy protection in danger

321 Studios will soon be shipping their newest product DVD Copy X, which will allow DVD owners to make backups of their DVDs, bypassing copy protection. Unfortunately, like all backup software, 321 president Robert Moore admits there is no way to prevent consumers from using the software to pirate rental DVDs or potentially make unlimited copies for distribution.

This weakening of the DVD protection system may very likely lead to a more cautious stance on DVD from the already nervous studios, particularly Disney who has repeatedly expressed concerns of DVD piracy.
