Feel the sting of the Scorpion King in October

Universal Studios Home Video has just announced plans to release the “Mummy”-spin off The Scorpion King on DVD this fall.

Set 5000 years ago in the infamous city of Gomorrah, The Scorpion King( The Rock) is a head-on confrontation between good and evil. Warlord Memmon (Steven Brand) has created a reign of terror across the desert using a sorceress (Kelly Hu), who envisions all his victories. Only a few free tribes remain and in order to defeat Memmon they reluctantly hire Mathayus (The Rock) to kill the beautiful sorceress. Instead he kidnaps her to lure Memmon into a trap. With the help of the leader of the free tribe, Balthazar (Michael Clarke Duncan), and an unlikely accomplice, the stage is set for the ultimate showdown.

The DVD will come in three incarnations. Separate widescreen and fullscreen versions of the movie will be available, and a third version will include an additional CD. The DVD will contain an audio commentary track by director Chuck Russell and a video commentary by The Rock. The disc will also contain an of the movie in an Enhanced Viewing Mode, in which, alternate versions of key scenes will accessible.

Next up is Choreography of a Fight Sequence, a shot-by-shot segment that follows the choreographed fight scenes from storyboards to choreography and rehearsal. Of course, the obligatory Making Of Featurette is not missing from the release either, and the disc will also contain a Discussion with the film’s Visual Effects Team. The DVD is rounded out by the Godsmack Music Video I Stand Alone and a first look at The Rock’s next movie, Helldorado.

In addition to these features, the special DVD+CD Edition of the movie will also contain a bonus soundtrack CD with three never-before-released live performance tracks from Godsmack, “Keep Away, ” “Awake,” and “Spiral.”

The Scorpion King will be available in stores on October 1. The DVD Special Editions will cost $26.98 and the special DVD+CD Edition will be priced at $39.98.
