Paramount’s new DVD is Top Secret!

The early, goofy days of Val Kilmer are making a comeback, both with MGM’s release of “Real Genius” and now with Paramount Home Entertainment’s spy spoof Top Secret!, set for a July release.

“Top Secret!” pits American rock star Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer) against the dreaded East German High Command. It’s a race against time as Nick teams up with Hillary Flammond (Lucy Gutteridge) to find her father before he can create the ultimate super weapon – the Polaris Mine. Along the way, “Top Secret!” manages to do for war epics and Elvis films what “Airplane!” did to disaster movies.

In a pleasing change of pace for a Paramount catalog release, the title will be treated with a fair amount of respect. An anamorphic widescreen transfer and audio in mono, stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 will be supplemented with a group commentary by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, Jon Davison, Hunt Lowry, and moderator Fred Rubin, a trailer, four alternate scenes with commentary and storyboards.

So pick up your gigantic phone and call all your friends. The secret is out. “Top Secret! ” is coming on July 16th for $24.99. Or save eight bucks by picking it up at the DVD Review Store.
