After years of sparse Star Trek releases, Paramount Home Entertainment seems to have finally started making good on their promises to up the ante on the franchise. True to their word concerning a bi-monthly release schedule on Star Trek: The Next Generation, a release has already been set for season two of the series to materialize in May.

The writer’s strike of 1987 affected virtually every show on television, and “The Next Generation” was no exception. The result was the shortest season in the series’ seven year run. Despite the quantity cutbacks, the quality remained high with the arrival of the skeptical Doctor Pulaski and the enigmatic bartender Guinan, the trial of Data’s consciousness, and the introduction of the Borg.

Due to the shortened season, the set will come on six discs instead of the standard seven. The contents of the discs are as follows:

Disc 1: The Child, Where Silence Has Lease, Elementary Dear Data and The Outrageous Okona

Disc 2: Loud as a Whisper, The Schizoid Man, Unnatural Selection and A Matter of Honor

Disc 3: The Measure of a Man, The Dauphin, Contagion and The Royale

Disc 4: Time Squared, The Icarus Factor, Pen Pals and Q Who?

Disc 5: Samaritan Snare, Up The Long Ladder, Manhunt and The Emissary

Disc 6: Peak Performance, Shades of Grey and Special Features

All episodes are presented in fullscreen with audio available in both Dobly Digital 5.1 and the original stereo tracks. Extras on disc six include continuations of the documentaries stared in set one “Mission Overview: Year Two” and “Selected Crew Analysis: Year Two”, two extensively titled featurettes “Departmental Briefing: Production – Behind The Scenes Look at Specific Key Episodes” and “Departmental Briefing: Memorable Missions – Second Season Episode Discussions with Production Crew” and the “Inside Starfleet” archives.
