The life of Oscar Wilde is explored in Wilde

The 1997 film Wilde shed new light on the controversial nineteenth century author Oscar Wilde. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is revisiting this film with a new special edition DVD.

Brilliant, egocentric and completely unique, Oscar Wilde defied convention on almost every level. While coming to terms with his newfound sexual identity, he also experienced his most creative period resulting in some of his best-known works. As his literary career flourished, the self-realization of his homosexuality caused Wilde enormous torment as he juggled marriage, fatherhood and responsibility with his obsessive love for Lord Alfred Douglas. It is this passionate and stormy relationship which consumed and ultimately destroyed him.

Presented in anamorphic widescreen and in Dolby Surround 2.0, “Wilde” contains an audio commentary with cast and crew, new featurettes entitled “Simply Wilde” and “Still Wild About Wilde”, a photo montage, theatrical trailers, filmographies, production notes and DVD-ROM content including the original website for the film.

“Wilde” will show up on March 19th with a suggested retail price of $29.95.
