Before the 1996 Best Picture nominee “Sling Blade”, Billy Bob Thornton starred in the original independent short that inspired it. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, once released in an issue of Short Cinema Journal is being given a DVD release of its own complete with a few tasty extras, courtesy of Vanguard Home Video.
Karl Childers is about to be released from an institution for the clinically insane after twenty-five years. Days before his release, a local reporter is granted access to talk to the man who hasn?t been in the public eye since committing a brutal double murder which placed him in the institution. Karl is slow-witted and seemingly amicable, but the story he has to tell is anything but.
The new DVD comes with an audio commentary with director George Hickenlooper and a featurette on the making of the film. The disc is scheduled to appear on DVD on March 19th.
