Star Trek: The Next Generation in March

Many Star Trek fans were delighted with the surprise included in the final volume of “Star Trek” on DVD. Paramount Home Video has used the disc to announce the upcoming release of the legendary show’s successor Star Trek: The Next Generation. The first season of the show which gains its own following in the eighties and nineties is coming in March.

The first of seven seasons for the show saw the launch of a new U.S.S. Enterprise – NCC 1701-D. This new Galaxy Class Starship headed on its new voyage under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. From its first mission to Farpoint Station, The Enterprise and her captain, with the help of an ambitious first officer, an android, a Klingon, and the rest of his crew learn to deal with the powerful Q, the return of the Romulans, and even the loss of one of their own.

Changing gears from the original series’ custom of releasing individual volumes on DVD, Paramount has decided to release “Star Trek: The Next Generation” on a season-by-season basis; a formula which has worked well for other studios. The first season will come on seven discs and will contain all twenty-six episodes in their original fullscreen ratio with new Dolby Digital 5.1 audio mixes. It is unknown whether the episodes will also contain their original soundtracks. The set will also include several interviews with cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage.

“Star Trek: The Next Generation – Season 1” will be available in March. As more information regarding features and price become available. They will be posted.
