Anchor Bay sends out a Vigilante

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment lives up to its reputation of delivering the goods on cult classics and treating each one like gold. The next title on their plate is the early eighties action flick Vigilante due in January.

“You want your city back? You gotta take it!” So begins “Vigilante”. Director William Lustig is at home on the streets and in the alleys of New York City and “Vigilante” takes us to the guts of the city. As a follow up to his successful cult favorite, “Maniac, ” Lustig responded to the new sub-genre inspired by “Death Wish” and brought to life by Italian filmmakers. These graphically violent, action-packed thrillers, with strong ties to American film-noir, starred popular tough-guy actors and paved the way for the big budget action films of today.

Given an overhaul, the DVD of the film will boast a new anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film as well as sound mixes in Dolby Digital EX 5.1 and DTS ES 61.. An audio commentary with director William Lusting and stars Robert Forster, Fred Williamson and Frank Pesce will highlight the discs features and will be joined by a theatrical trailer and a slideshow of production stills.

Hitting shelves on January 22nd, the newest disc from Anchor Bay will carry a $19.98 suggested retail price.
