Farewell George

George Harrison, the lead guitarist for The Beatles passed away this morning after a lengthy battle with throat cancer. The second member of the unparalleled musical sensation after John Lennon’s murder twenty-one years ago, Harrison lost to the cancer he had been fighting for some time.

The youngest of the Beatles, Harrison was responsible for the tunes “Taxman,” “Here Comes the Sun” and “Something” among others. His post-Beatles career was varied including the song “My Sweet Lord”, participation with the popular Travelling Wilburys and even an appearance on the American television show “The Simpsons”. More so than his band mates, George was very dedicated to religion and mysticism. It was George that was responsible for the band’s famous visit to the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Although this news has little direct correlation to the DVD format outside of George’s participation in many films on disc, the entertainment canvas has shifted with his passing.
