Disney puts a number of animated classics and sequels into production

Recently, Disney has announced the plans for three new Disney animated classics, as well as a large number of their direct-to-video sequels. Although exact specifications and release dates are not uniformly available on them, all have begun the process of production and advertising.

In addition to the previously announced “Peter Pan” and “Atlantis” Special Editions, Disney has announced upcoming release dates for The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh coming in 2002. Apparently, although the packaging will be similar to previous Disney releases, for whatever reason, the Gold Collection banner seems to have been dropped from these releases. While the same may be true for the Platinum Collection banner, the release schedule remains unchanged. Anyone who picked up a copy of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” may have noticed the announcement of the next title Beauty and the Beast due out next fall.

Disney seems to have gone sequel-crazy. Adding to the growing list of classics revisited on video, Disney has announced the upcoming releases for Dumbo II, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, Return To Neverland: Peter Pan II (which is scheduled for a theatrical release prior to a DVD release), and The Hunchback of Notre Dame II which will hit shelves on the same day as the original.

More details on all of these titles will certainly become more solidified as time progresses. Any further updates will be posted here.
