York/Maverick Entertainment hits the mark with 1 million units sold

York/Maverick Entertainment has set another milestone domestically, with over one million units sold through freshman sellthrough division, it was announced today by Tanya York, President, York Entertainment and Doug Schwab, President, Maverick Entertainment.

In the first eleven months, the company has released over 42 titles to the sellthrough market, translating to over 1-million units. The sales include direct to sellthrough features, catalog, and day and date DVD releases. Two of direct to sellthrough titles are the family films Jacob Two Two Meets The Hooded Fang, starring Miranda Richardson, Ice-T, and Gary Busey, and Silver Wolf, starring Roy Scheider and Michael Biehn.

The million unit tally began in January with York/Maverick’s 100th release together (York has released over 300 films) Thrill Seekers, starring Casper Van Dien, Martin Sheen, and Catherine Oxenberg, and ends with the September release of Beverly Hood, an urban comedy featuring the singing group “Destiny’s Child.”

The best selling titles in this period include two self-produced features Nothin’ 2 Lose (catalog title), starring Brian Hooks, and Out Kold (released in June 2001), starring Ice-T, Tiny Lister, Jr., along with the action adventure film Thrill Seekers (released in January 2001).

The company plans to release more catalog product to the sellthrough market in the next year, along with more pack configurations. In addition, the number one supplier of urban product worldwide is currently filming the urban/action feature Random Acts of Violence, starring rapper Mack 10.
