Disney will take you to Atlantis: The Lost Empire in January

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has just unveiled details about the upcoming DVD release of this summer’s animated feature film Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

Discover one of the greatest legends of all time with “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” – an action-packed adventure with an engaging storyline, positive messages of teamwork and integrity, and stunning animation! Journey below to the depths of the sea with a young adventurer named Milo Thatch (Michael J. Fox) and an intrepid group of explorers as they find the mysterious lost continent of Atlantis.

In the tradition of Disney’s release strategy, “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” will come to DVD in two separate incarnations. The first will be a regular DVD release, while the second will be a 2-disc Collector’s Edition. Both releases will be THX-certified and feature an anamorphic widescreen presentation of the movie in its 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio. Interestingly, the standard release will also feature a pan & scan version of the movie. Instead, the Collector’s Edition will feature a DTS audio track, alongside the 5.1 channel Dolby Digital track that can be found on both releases.

Both versions will contain a commentary track with the filmmakers, as well as a deleted scene called Viking Prologue. How To Speak Atlantean, a short featurette from the Disney Channel and virtual tours of the computer models will also be found on both releases.

The 2-disc Collector’s Edition will further add to these extras by including tons of additional supplements, such as featurettes Story & Editorial, Art Direction, Character Designs, Music & Sound and Publicity to give fans a well-rounded look behind the scenes.

“Atlantis: The Lost Empire” is scheduled for release on January 29. The standard release will carry a $19.95 retail price, while the Collector’s Edition will have an affordable $29.95 price tag.
